3/14/2017 0 Comments The Kicker Is Done! The kicker is finished and I'm pretty proud of it. It rides nice, it holds up good, and I've hit it a few times. Jake and I got a few videos of me going off of it this morning. Cyle thinks that I should put a sealer on it, but whatever.
I'm going to build another ramp, and I want to make this one better. Specifically, I want to build a quarter pipe that has really good transitions. Allee tells me that I could use a lot of really cool math and get really nerdy about it, but I don't know how I feel about that. Calculating the slope of a quarter pipe sounds dumb. I don't know why I would do that at all. Allee started telling me that I could also figure out how fast I'm going and the optimum point to do the trick, but why would I do that? It doesn't need to be that complicated. 3/10/2017 0 Comments More Posts About Buildings & FoodCyle thinks he's funny because he can make weird references, but he's not funny. Today, I took the bottom support and made it vertical so that it made for more space, and then I made the ramp a little taller, but I'm not too sure if I'm going to keep it that way. I just want the legs to be sturdier, so I'm experimenting with supports for the main legs.
Today my plan is to add supports long ways, parallel to the ramp face so that the legs don't splay out when someone goes up it. I'll post on that on Monday. 3/8/2017 0 Comments Progress Up 'Til NowWe're just finishing up the supports for the kicker ramp and the next step is going to be making it look good- sanding and stuff- and then I want to see if we can find a new sheet of plywood to put on the ramp surface. Cyle says that we could just put a few layers of sealer on it, but I think a new sheet would be better.
When we started the 20% project, I wanted to make a bunch of YouTube tutorials to teach people how to do scooter tricks like finger whips and Bri airs and stuff, but then Cyle used his crazy mind control to convince me to do something else. So we decided that it would be pretty cool to build a couple of ramps for the Animas students to ride. Right now, we only a box and a rail, and they're both in pretty bad shape. So if I build a couple of new things, that would bring happiness to other people- and to me. It would be sick. I've been building this kicker ramp for the past three weeks and am almost finished. So far, I've gone through like seven different versions of the ramp because each version has been a failure or too hard to finish, so I've restarted a bunch of times. I've learned that it's way easier to make nice, straight cuts with power tools than it is to use hand tools and a hammer. I like the hammer a lot. I use it all the time. Cyle says that I shouldn't, but who cares about what Cyle says? I have a ramp now that's pretty good and is super heavy because I've added all kinds of supports to it. It still needs one more because the middle sinks when you go up it, and so I'd rather be doing that than writing this. I've been building without using or following any plans and what I've learned from that is that it works fine, but that Cyle and Allee laugh at me all of the time. I redid my project proposal today and now I'm off to add the last supports and see how well my ghetto-crazy-janky ramp works. |
